360fit Blog - Goodlife the Puppy Mill of Gyms

Goodlife Fitness is the puppy mill of fitness in Canada.

They have lots of pretty machines and weights. You look around and think, heck I could get fit in a place like this!

They also have some of the worst trainers around, and over 80 percent of their members never come to the gym at all, let alone get fit.

There’s a reason Goodlife Fitness hires and keeps bad trainers. It’s all economic.

You see Goodlife Fitness hires kids most of the time. They have zero experience, only a weekend course, and no real understanding of fitness and how to work with clients.

But those kids make Goodlife millions of dollars a year.

You see, better trainers command higher wages. This means the company makes less on those trainers. So it’s in Goodlife’s best interest to hire and keep young and inexperienced trainers. Those trainers are fed clients who walk in the door, wanting to get fit. They pay Goodlife thousands of dollars for an expert. What they get is a novice, who likely knows only a fraction more than the client does.

The client works with the trainer for a long time and doesn’t progress, because the trainer doesn’t know how to help them. Usually then the client quits and says, personal trainers are waste of time money.

The fact is there are lots of very good trainers. Just very few of them work at Goodlife Fitness. They work at smaller gyms that care about their clients. These trainer get results, help people every day, and are worth every penny you pay for them.

If you want to get fit, skip Goodlife and the other big chains, and look for a smaller gym with better trainers. You will actually get something good for the money you put down and be much happier with the results.

360fit - Group Personal Fitness Training

Group Personal Training

One of the hottest new trends in fitness is group personal training. Basically the idea is to take a few friends and share the cost of personal training amongst the group to make it more affordable. Usually small group personal fitness training costs between 30-40 per session per client, which is much less than a one on one session. But that's not the only positive.

One of the best reasons to try out some group personal training is that you'll push yourself harder than you did before. No one wants to look like they can't keep up and no one wants to be the last one done. When you're with a group of people you'll want to push harder so you'll get more out of your workout.

Sometimes you might think it's a good idea to skip a training session if you're tired or not feeling it. But when you know there will be other people there expecting you, you'll be much more likely to come do the training, and be happy that you did afterward.

And lastly group personal training creates a small community for the group. You're there to support each other, be positive with each other, and help each other through workouts. That feeling of belonging helps everyone to want to reach their goals, and keep on track.

Grab a few friends and try some group training. You'll be happy you did it.
